UMD Featured on U.S. Department of Energy's .EDUconnections

The University of Maryland (UMD) has been featured in the U.S. Department of Energy's .EDUconnections, a targeted site that spotlights the achievements of academic institutions committed to supporting and advancing scientific research programs.

The Department of Energy's Office of Scientific and Technological Information (OSTI) operates .EDUconnections. OSTI seeks examples of how advancements through DOE-sponsored programs are expanding knowledge in technical subjects such as mathematics, engineering and science. The University of Maryland was selected to be featured for the month of March 2013. Academic achievements and innovative research programs at UMD are highlighted.

"The University of Maryland has developed into a preeminent research university, well known around the world for its achievements," wrote Dr. Walter Warnick, Director of the Department of Energy's OSTI, in a letter to UMD President Wallace Loh. "As a globally-connected university offering a world-class education, the University of Maryland prepares students to be successful in today's knowledge-based economy."

Featured on the site is information about the Nanostructures for Electrical Energy Storage (NEES) initiative, UMD faculty researchers, as well as UMD research on climate adaptation, national security, and much more.

OSTI makes information widely available online, aiming to accelerate new scientific knowledge and discoveries by working with universities and research institutions.
