What Black Barbers and Stylists Say to Scientists: "No Research on Us Without Us" "No Research on Us Without Us" The history of abuse in the name of science would be easy to ignore were it not so well documented. From the Syphilis Study Done at Tuskegee to Henrietta Lacks, the legitimate distrust African Americans have toward biomedical research is well earned. However, barbershops and salons serving the African American community can indeed be the bridge of trust needed to ensure black people benefit from the scientific discoveries saving lives today and into the future. “No Research on Us Without Us” is a call to action. Please join us in this transformative meeting to put you in charge of improving health and wellbeing in our communities. We have also invited research scientists actively working in this area of public health. In addition to networking and sharing best practices, the workshop will also be used to conduct focus groups and interviews designed to better understand feasibility, acceptability and sustainability of barbershop interventions and lay the groundwork for a 2020 national conference.
