NEA Grant Supports UMD Research
Kenneth Elpus, assistant professor of Music at the University of Maryland, is one of the winners of a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). This study will evaluate the achievement of adolescents that study the arts in comparison to those that do not.
This is the first time the NEA is offering grants for research on the impact of the arts on various parts of society. Grants ranged in size from $10,000 to $30,000 each. The three areas of projects include the impact of the arts on economic development, the health of arts organizations and the links between arts engagement and social outcomes, learning or behavior.
