Statement from the University of Maryland Division of Research on the Effects of the Government Shutdown on Research

As the partial government shutdown continues, the Division of Research is making every effort to minimize the impact of this event on our research programs. The Division is monitoring individual award notices and working closely with colleges, departments and researchers that could be affected.  Because we are still spending Fiscal Year 2013 (FY13) and earlier funds, our research operations continue to function at normal levels.

Our processes have continued as usual:

  • The Office of Research Administration (ORA) continues to accept and process proposals for review and will submit them to the appropriate federal agency once the shutdown is over.
  • FY13 (or prior year appropriation) active grant and contract activities are progressing normally.
  • Unless a Stop-Work Notice or similar notification has been received from an agency, spending continues on awards whose increments have already been received.

ORA has compiled individualized guidance from major government agencies here.

We are in close communication with our government funders and will pass any updates on to the campus research community through this website and the University’s colleges and departments.
