Host: University of Maryland Alumni Association

Venue: Zoom Webinar Register Here

As members of the Digital Age, we are constantly consuming information from the media be it through more traditional sources such as television or less traditional ones such as social media. At every turn there are facts and figures being shared, especially this year - an election year. Have you ever stopped to think, 'Is this true?' If so, join our panel of experts to learn more about dis-information and the importance of fact checking, and specifically how these topics relate to politics and elections.

Panelists include:

  • Sarah Oates - Philip Merrill College of Journalism faculty member and scholar in the field of political communication and democratization
  • Naeemul Hassan - Philip Merrill College of Journalism and iSchool joint faculty member and scholar focused on applying big data and data mining principles to journalism and computer science instruction
  • Jen Golbeck PhD '05 - iSchool joint faculty member and leader in social media research and science communication

This event is part of the UMDemocracy event series covering things to know before the November election. Click here to see our other UMDemocracy events.
