The University of Maryland Emeritus/Emerita Association (UMEEA) presents a talk by Professor Emerita Rita Colwell entitled: "Predicting Pandemics: What Cholera Taught Us about Covid-19."
 
All members of the University community are invited to attend. The presentation will be followed by a Question & Answer session with Dr. Colwell.
 
Distinguished University Professor Rita Colwell is a member of the faculty of the UMD Department of Cell and Molecular Biology (CBMG). She is an internationally renowned environmental microbiologist whose work on cholera, among many other things, has had major impacts on human health. Dr. Colwell’s contributions have been recognized in many ways over the years. Recognition includes election to membership in the National Academy of Sciences and being awarded the National Medal of Sciences. Dr. Colwell has served as Director of the National Science Foundation and has been president of several major scientific societies including the American Association for the Advancement of Science.  The University of Maryland Emeritus/Emerita Association (UMEEA) presents programs of particular interest to retired faculty and those faculty who are nearing retirement; however our programs are open to the whole campus community (UMD faculty, staff, students and their guests).
